Beyond the Books: January

Heya! January’s come to an end, which means it’s time for another Beyond the Books. This is a monthly post where you can share everything that’s not about books, idea by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much. Go check her blog!

TV

sherlock

  • I went on with Mr Robot season 2, and it just got weirder and weirder but it’s a really awesome series
  • Sherlock, oh Sherlock. A new season, with a whole new 3 episodes (yes there was a bit of sarcasm there) was on TV, and of course I watched it. If you have watched it too: please scream with me over it because I’m so confused and I don’t know what to do any more and I need a new season like, right now

Movies

  • As for movies, I only watched Ice Age: Collision Course, which, as you can expect, was super funny and awesome.

GREEN DAY!!

A lot happened for me this month..

  • On the 16th I went to the Hammerfall concert, which was amazing. It was my birthday as well!
  • Sabaton was announced as one of the bands at Graspop Metal Meeting, which made me even more excited!
  • On the 29th, I went to the Sabaton concert, and it was even better than I remembered. I saw them last year (and wrote a review here), and I had sort of forgotten how awesome they were. I mean, of course they are, but I’ve been to a lot of concerts, but when they came on stage and started playing, everything came back. And yes, my crush on Chris Rörland is also back in full force! 😛
  • and then finally on the 31st, I saw the band I may have waited the longest for. I started listening to Green Day when I was around 12 or 13 years old. I’m now 19, and I’ve finally seen them live, and it was absolutely one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. The energy, the show, everything was just amazing.I may write a review of it later, but I am already busy enough with keeping the book part of this blog going so I’ll see about that 😛
  • As you may know, I am trying to write a fanfiction (okay, I’m writing 2, for different fandoms), and I’ve found that I mostly listen to Muse or Neon Trees while writing. It calms me down to the point where I can concentrate on the music and words will be flowing out of my fingers
  • I also “accidentally” ordered 10 cds, but they haven’t come in yet 😦

Other things

  • I bought new lipstick! And I made selfies, picture can be found below 🙂
  • Me and my sister have our own apartment!!! We were trying for it since December and halfway through January it finally got through and I’m so excited! Moving will take place from somewhere halfway February through begin March, so I’ll probably be less active (or I’ll schedule some posts, I’ll see if I have enough time for everything). I’m kinda scared, because it means moving out of home, but I think me and my sister will be alright there. I can’t wait to finally have enough shelf space for my books because right now everything is crammed in two tiny shelves from my closet
  • For my birthday, I got this super awesome Marvel Collector Corps box themed X-Men and I can’t make pictures now, but you can find the site here. If you click past boxes, you can see the one from December, which is the one I’ve gotten. Its amazing.
  • I also got a Magic: The Gathering deck for my birthday, and I’m ready to become a full Nerd™ 😉 The game is highly addicting and I can’t wait to start playing with my own deck
  • I also bought the cutest 2017 diary, pics will be below. It has cute little animals, different ones every month, and the colors are all so light pastel and I just love it so much ❤

picsart_02-04-12-21-44img_20170104_153731

So that’s all for this month, this time it’s actually a lot! As you may notice, I didn’t have a subject with my nails, and that’s because my nails have been either naked or just polished with one color this month. Sad, I know.

How’d did January go for you? Do we share any interests other than books? Let me know!

Beyond the Books – December

First of all: HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope y’all had fun celebrating it 🙂

And that’s another month gone, time goes so fast these days! I always feel really old when I say things like that but even though 2016 sucked (we can all agree on that), it went by quite fast!I know I said that the last two months but I swear this is the last time 😛

I didn’t do a lot of things I wanted to, but on the other hand, I also did a lot of things I hadn’t planned!

This post is an idea by Cátia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much (go follow her!!). The idea is to post about the other things that happen in your life, apart from reading (because that’s the one thing we all have in common, don’t we?)

TV

  • I went on with watching Mr. Robot and it’s really awesome, there is one super weird episode that almost made me stop watching, but luckily I didn’t and I’m still watching it!
  • I thought of restarting Doctor Who, which I started watching somewhere around this time last year (???) and it was cool, but depression got me again and I stopped watching everything I watched at that time. Any other Whovians out there, maybe?
  • I also thought about rewatching Lucifer, which is an amazing series. I watched it with my best friend, but I rarely see him these days so we kind of paused it, and now the new season is out (has been for a while, oops) and I want to rewatch everything!

Movies

  • First of all: THE NEW GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY TRAILER AHHHHH!! I fangirled about it here 🙂
  • Sadly, I didn’t get to see the other new Marvel movie, Doctor Strange, but as soon as I can download it anywhere, I’ll watch it (and make sure to review it)!
  • I did watch Passengers in the movie theaters last week, and wrote a review about it here

Nails

My nails did get some more attention this month:

I tried a drop-thingy that didn’t work out that well 😦
snapchat-773338014
I matched with the movie we watched (Passengers)!

Music

  • It’s been 2 years since Nightwish published Endless Forms Most Beautiful and a year since I’ve seen them live. I might review it soon, because I love Nightwish
  • I bought a super awesome AC/DC hoodie and I love it!
  • 342195a-emp342195b-emp
  • I bought me and my friends Graspop Metal Meeting tickets and I’m so excited! I went last year and it was simply amazing so I can’t wait to go again next year 😀

event_image_5853d9d6653d3

Other Stuff

  • I had a fancy Christmas dinner and I went in a dress and heels (which I had to buy because I didn’t have either of those lol) and it was really nice
  • I spent Christmas with my boyfriend at his parent’s house, and it was so fun 🙂 I was a little bit nervous because I had yet to meet the other side of his family, but they were all really nice and his mom was so happy to see me again, it was so sweet. I promised them I’d be back soon
  • Other than that I didn’t do a lot, so here are some pictures of me and the cat of my boyfriend’s parents
  • Funny story: I picked up their cat and she stayed with me, so I petted her, and suddenly all of them were looking at me asking “how did I do that”… Apparently, their cat isn’t cuddable at all, and even tries to get away when their mom picks her up.. It is I, the cat whisperer 🙂

How did this month go for you? Do we have anything in common?

Beyond the Books – November

Hello! It’s December already, is it just me or does this year seem to fly by?

This wonderful idea is brought to you by Cátia @The Girl Who Read Too Much. Go give her a follow!

TV

  • As for TV I continued watching Breaking Bad but there’s so much dialogue, I can’t concentrate on it anymore! We usually watch it at late evenings or night and at that point I’m already tired from the day so yeah we kind of paused that
  • We did start Mr. Robot, which is a really nice series but it is starting to get weirder and weirder. Unlike Breaking Bad, this series doesn’t have a lot of dialogue. What it does have a lot is monologue haha.
  • I’m still watching Once Upon A Time, and oh my god all the plot twists! I’ll try to avoid giving any spoilers but if you watch it, please tell me!

Movies

This month I actually didn’t watch any movies, shocking, I know 😛 I was busier with sleeping and actually reading books again, so maybe next month!

Nails

Even my nails didn’t get a lot of attention! I did do some art, and even though it was only November, I was already in the Christmas spirit haha

Music

I recently got obsessed with Hammerfall again (mainly because it’s the first upcoming concert YAY) and I reviewed the new Green Day album, Revolution Radio, which you can view here.

And that’s already it! To be honest, December can go by fast af for me, I don’t really celebrate Christmas (got invited at my boyfriend’s parents though so that’s nice), and I just really want to be done with 2016 already.

How was this month for you?

Music review: Revolution Radio

I’ve always had a dream of running a blog where I would have a weekly album review on Sunday… I might actually do just that 🙂

On October 7th 2016, something magical happened: Green Day released a new album called Revolution Radio. It has been 4 years since the last albums in 2012, Uno, Dos, and Tré. The single Bang Bang was released on August 11th, before the album title was even revealed. The tracks Revolution Radio and Still Breathing were already released throughout September, getting all the fans enthusiastic. It sounded like the “old Green Day”, like the way they sounded on the album American Idiot. I, too, got really excited for the new album. Not because I only like the old Green Day (I love everything about them to be honest), but also because a new album was not only really awesome but also meant a new tour.

green-day-press-frank-maddocks-2016-billboard-1548
From Left to Right: Mike Dirnt, Billie Joe Armstrong and Tré Cool

Track list:

  1.  Somewhere Now
  2. Bang Bang
  3. Revolution Radio
  4. Say Goodbye
  5. Outlaws
  6. Bouncing Off The Wall
  7. Still Breathing
  8. Youngbloood
  9. Too Dumb To Die
  10. Troubled Times
  11. Forever Now
  12. Ordinary World

This album is a lot different from the previous trilogy, and it actually does sound a lot more like American Idiot. However, it’s not the same. American Idiot is a lot angrier, and while Revolution Radio still has an important message in it, the way it is addressed has changed.

As lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong said, the album is meant to reflect the current state of violence in the United States. Bang Bang is is about “the culture of mass shooting that happens in America mixed with narcissistic social media.”

As for the songs, some are the hard rock we know from Green Day, and some (like Ordinary World) are just beautiful and slow. That doesn’t take away the power they have though. They really put their energy into this album and they did a wonderful job on it.

My favorite songs on the album are Still Breathing and Revolution Radio. The energy I get from Revolution Radio is amazing, and the lyrics from Still Breathing get me every time. My favorite songs can change though, it happens a lot.

Now, as I was expecting: a new album meant another tour and they’re finally coming to my country (The Netherlands) again! The last time they were here was in 2013, on Pinkpop. Sadly, I was not allowed to go to concerts back then 😦  The day of ticket sale I sat behind my laptop 15 minutes before it began, all ready to fight for those tickets. And, good news, I got them!!

Snapchat-4381243528651323749.jpg

I have been a fan of Green Day since I was about 12 years old so this is like a dream coming true, I am already so excited for January 31st 😀 3 more months now!

Have you heard the album? What do you think? Do you have favorite songs? Or do you want me to review a specific album? Tell me in the comments! 🙂

Beyond the Books – October

This is an idea by Cátia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much, go give her a follow!

I didn’t really blog this month because I went on a vacation and got sick so I didn’t really feel like doing anything. But, I have some post ideas ready and I’m all back again!

TV

  • I started Breaking Bad with my boyfriend, and I must say: 2 episodes in, and I am very confused haha. I do like it though, so I hope we can watch all of it soon!
  • I am still not watching anything else besides Once Upon A Time, but honestly, that show, oh man. Every episode is just one big mess of happiness, sadness, and “oh-my-god-you-did-not-just-do-that”-moments. Y’all should watch it though, it’s amazing
  • I’m also considering watching Doctor Who again, I stopped watching somwehere halfway through because I didn’t have time any more but I’m working a little less now so I should be able to watch something again

Movies

  • I watched Groundhog Day, about a TV weatherman who relives the same day (which is Groundhog Day) over and over and over and over again. I got the idea to watch it from an episode of Supernatural (3.11 Mystery Spot), and it was a really funny movie
  • Other than that, I only rewatched Life As We Know It, where a man and a woman gotta take care of a baby when the baby’s parents died in a car crash. It’s a typical chick flick and I loved it as much as the first time I watched it haha

Nails

I did do some nail art this month, and as you can see, I’m very fond of dots (mostly because they’re easy to do and don’t take up a lot of time).

Music

img_20161021_180108

I bought another CD (because why wouldn’t I.. It’s not like I have any place left on my shelves oops), and I went to a concert, Lacuna Coil. They’re a really awesome band, check them out!

Also, Green Day’s Revolution Radio came out, and I love it! I’m really excited for the concert in January (did I tell you I got concert tickets for Green Day?? Because I did 😀 )

another release was Avenged Sevenfold’s The Stage, which is also really awesome. They’re coming to the Netherlands too, but I’m not sure if I’m going because it’s really expensive.. 😦

Other stuff

  • My sister’s birthday was friday the 28th, and so was my boyfriend’s graduation (for a bachelor at the uni), so I baked one carrot cake and one apple pie and they were delicious! I hadn’t baked in a while and it was really nice to do it again. Maybe I’ll share a receipe someday in the near future 🙂

img_20161027_235802 img_20161028_205817

  • For those who wonder, I don’t celebrate Halloween. I spent the night working and then straight up going to bed because I was so tired. I do hope y’all had a nice Halloween though!

What did you do the last month? Anything we have in common? Tell me in the comments!

Beyond the Books – September

Because I do a lot of other things than Reading 🙂

Links open in a new tab

This is a monthly thing created by this lovely blog, to show what else happens besides the reading and book blogging. I am actually a whole week too late with this, but still going for it 🙂

Movies

I didn’t watch that much movies, but I did watch some and they were awesome!

  • First of all, one of the new chick flicks I found, Crazy, Stupid, Love. It was really amazing and damn, there is this one plottwist I actually didn’t see coming, and that doesn’t happen a lot with chick flicks 😛
  • Drinking Buddies, a 2013 movie. It seemed like a huge chick flick at first, but didn’t end like one. The ending really surprised me, but I liked the movie nonetheless
  • It’s Kind Of A Funny Story, which I reviewed here.
  • No Strings Attached, another really funny movie, which I really enjoyed
  • And last but not least, The Italian Job, a movie about a group of thieves who are planning revenge on an ex-friend. I can’t way too much because spoilers, but if you like classic action, you should watch this one!

Nails

This month I did more nail art than less month, even though it doesn’t even last a week.

It isn’t by far as professional as some other nail art I’ve seen on Instagram, but I don’t have all those fancy brushes because they are way too expensive haha

Music

I’ve found out that I didn’t have Nightwish’s album Angels Fall First already, so I had it in my downloads immediately. I recommend you all to listen to Nightwish by the way, even if you don’t like metal, you should just her the voice of the lead singers ❤

Also, the webshop I usually buy my stuff from had a nice sale in CD’s so I kind of spent 60 euros on Cd’s.. oops 😉 It was all worth it though!

IMG_20161004_103844.jpg

Other stuff

  • Well, not something to be proud of, but I made the 200 hours of working in September. Which is kind of 50 hours a week, and that may be a regular full-time job for some, but for me, as an 18 years-old who works at Subway, it’s quite much. Luckily, I am planning to go on a holiday halfway though October so yay! 🙂
  • Other than that, I haven’t done that much (which is understandable since I worked that much haha) but I made some really cute pics of kitties I saw!

First two are my friend’s cat, he’s a real cutie (and he used to be so small you could hold him in one hand! I’ll try to find the pics I took then because damn, cuteness), the 3rd is my boyriends cat (so cute but not that pettable haha) and the last one is my own smol baby, trying to have me pet her through the window

What did you do the last month? Anything we have in common? Tell me in the comments!

Concert review: Iron Maiden

FIRST OF ALL: I FINALLY WENT TO SEE F*CKING IRON MAIDEN YEEESSSS

Alright, had to do that. I’ve been wanting to see them since I started to get into them at 13/14 years old (18 years old now), and holy shit, it was all worth the waiting.

Concert review: Sabaton, Alestorm and Bloodbound

So, on March, 11th, I had another concert, this time it was Sabaton with Alestorm and Bloodbound. I have no idea how people usually review concerts (if they even do that) but I’d love to share my experience.

Note: I’m typing this on mobile and once I get the change, I’ll edit it on my laptop and add links to the bands and songs I’m talking about
