Book Traveling Thursday: a summer read

Hey there! I’m back with another Book Traveling Thursday this week! Sorry I missed last week, I was crazy busy with packing my bag for the festival I had last weekend, and I worked till 9pm so I didn’t have a lot of time left 😦

Book Traveling Thursdays is created by Cátia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @ Danielle’s Book Blog. This weekly meme consists in picking a book related to the weekly theme that is announced in the group Goodreads page (if you want to join click here) at the beginning of each month. After that you can write a blog post where you explain why you choose that book and choose different covers from different countries. To make it a little bit easy you are going to choose different editions of the original cover, the cover from your country, your favorite cover, and your least favorite cover.

June 22nd – Summer is here! Choose a book you want to read this Summer.

I chose the Summoner book 2: The Inquisition. I finished the Novice last night, and this book was so good. I’ll be writing a review soon! I really want to read the Inquisition and the Battlemage soon, but I’ll have to buy them haha.

Original (and favorite) cover:

25689056

Cover from my country (the Netherlands):

(This book isn’t translated into Dutch yet??? Man shame on my country)

Least favorite cover:

3313017830754937

I chose these two because they look like the 1st and 3rd covers from the original editions and it confuses the hell out of me. Not that these aren’t pretty though!

Buy this book here on Book Depository!

Have you read this book? What did you think? I personally love all three of the book’s covers, I’ll include them all here because they’re simply beautiful!

Top 5 Wednesday: Side Ships

Hello, here I am again with the T5W! The Top 5 Wednesday is created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @Thoughts On Tomes. You can find the Goodreads group here.

— Tell us your favorite relationships that don’t involve the protagonist!

I’m really excited for this theme, because most side ships don’t get their own story, yet sometimes I love the side ship more than the main ship haha 😛

1. Lissa and Christian – Vampire Academy

Of course one of my side ships would be from this series (spoiler alert: next one will be too), I love it too much. Now, to be fair, this isn’t exactly a side ship, but Rose is the main character so I think this counts as side ship :’)

2. Jill and Eddie – Bloodlines

I did warn you, didn’t I? Sorry, I’m way too much in love with anything Richelle Mead writes. Jill and Eddie are the cutest side ship, but also the most frustrating one because they can’T SEEM TO GET TOGETHER. Struggles of a book addict…

3. Alec and Magnus – The Mortal Instruments

In the series, this ship is portrayed as one of the main (I think, I haven’t watched it yet), but in the books, this is more of a side ship. They’re really cute together though!

4. Simon and Izzy – The Mortal Instruments

Gosh, another one from the same series.. However, Simon and Izzy are amazing, and I’d love to read a book from Simon’s POV. Not only with Izzy, but also how he became a vampire and all that. *Pokes Cassandra Clare*

5. Cress and Thorne, Scarlet and Wolf – The Lunar Chronicles

While Cinder is seen as the main character throughout the entire series, I really love Scarlet and Cress ❤

And that’s all for this week! What are your favorite side ships? Do you like them more than main ships?

Movie review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Hey all! I’m back with another movie review, one that recently (to be fair, it was recently when I wrote this post) hit the theaters. I saw it Thursday right after it came out, and I was so excited! I could’ve gone to the prerelease Wednesday night, but those tickets were a lot more expensive… Nevertheless I really enjoyed this movie!

Quick add: I had written this entire post but then my laptop fucked up and deleted it 😦 I’ll write it again, but I had added some details I cannot remember any more so I’m sorry if this kinda sucks. I’ll probably watch it again sometime and give you all a proper review!

Imdb link: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Here’s the trailer:

Summary: The Guardians of the Galaxy are viewed as heroes since saving the planet Xandar. While they continue their guarding, they try to find out who Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) dad was. Once they do, everything seems fine, but once they realize this might be the biggest problem they’ve ever have encountered, it’s already too late. However, it’s not stopping them for trying to save the Galaxy a second time.

This movie was one of the few I was really looking forward to, ever since watching the first movie! And, not so surprisingly, it lived up to my expectations. Although I must add that I’m a huge fan of anything Marvel, so I might have it wrong.

However, this movie started out great already, and only got better. I laughed a lot of times, was surprised a lot, especially after finding out who Peter’s dad is. I expected something bad would happen, but it was worse, and it was amazing. Peter Quill hasn’t changed a bit, except he now lets out his feelings for Gamora a bit more. Gamora however, doesn’t respond to them, which isn’t anything new.

Drax and Rocket are even more hilarious in this movie, and every time Peter and Rocket had an argument, I found myself shaking with laughter.

Baby Groot was a character I was really looking forward to seeing. I loved how the first movie ended with Groot, and Baby Groot is just so cute!

Basically, it’s another epic story about the Guardians saving the Galaxy and fighting their own personal battles, with the Awesome Mix Vol. 2 as playlist. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend that you do! (but please watch part 1 first)

Have you seen this movie? What did you think of it?

(ARC) Book review: Geekerella

Hey all! I’m back with a book review this time, and I’m really excited to share this one with you! I heard about Geekerella a while ago, and I immediately felt the need to read this book. When I got approved for an ARC I was really honored wanted to start reading right away. Sadly, I was really busy, but I read it anyway! Just over a longer period of time haha 🙂

Title: Geekerella

Author: Ashley Poston

Goodreads link: Geekerella

30724132

Summary: Elle is a geeky girl who belongs to a fandom from a show called Starfield. Her dad used to be a huge fan too, before he died. He set up ExcelsiCon, a con for all Starfield lovers, with cosplay contests and more. Sadly for her, she now lives with her stepmom and sisters, who think very less of her. She wants to enter the contest, but the only money she can get is from the tips she gets from her work at The Magic Pumkpin, a fast food truck. The main character in Starfield, Federation Prince Carmindor is played by Darien Freeman. He is not so thrilled with it, since for him, everything is mostly just smiling for hours and hours and awkward meet-and-greets. He does not want to go to ExcelsiCon. That is, until he meets a girl who convinces him through a whole different way to go. Both of them find their way to get trough days and some interesting friendships are made.

Buy this book here on Book Depository!

Note: I was provided a digital copy by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to NetGalley and Ashley Poston for this opportunity!

Gosh, I loved everything about this book. From the way everything planned out to the tiny details.

First of all, Elle is amazing. I was hesitant at first because there are already so many retellings of Cinderella, but this geek version was just everything my heart was hoping for. She tries her hardest, but nothing is ever good enough for her stepmom, and to top it off, her stepsisters aren’t exactly her best friends either. The fandom she’s in shows her the love and respect she wants, and it portrays really well what fandoms can do to you.

Darien Freeman is kind of the typical young, arrogant actor you find in books. The only thing that really bothered me is that he doesn’t seem “real”. I’ve heard so many stories from people meeting actors in real life, and also actors themselves sharing some things about the fandom of their show. They care a lot about their fans, and sure, sometimes it is hard to be an actor and to be famous, but I’ve never heard about someone who was as bad as Darien Freeman.

The Magic Pumpkin is another great thing, because it doesn’t seem to fit in the story, yet it’s one of the best things in the entire story. The fact that Elle works in a greasy food truck with someone she doesn’t even know that well, just kind of finishes it for me. Might just be me, though.

The ending is a little bit of what I expected, but at some points I was also just really pleasantly surprised. If you have read the book, please drop me a comment because I need to talk about it!!!

I loved this book a lot, and it reminded me a bit of Fangirl (review here). I like books where fangirls aren’t portrayed as “weird” or “out of place”. I mean, maybe we are a little weird sometimes, but to me, it’s the same as going to a football (or soccer) game. I couldn’t care less about the entire thing, but to some people, it’s the world. Well, for us, that’s fandom. Things such as cons are places where all of us are the same and nothing is too weird or strange. For some people, the fandoms are the only places they can truly be themselves, and I think that’s a beautiful thing.

Overall, apart for Darien’s moody side, this book was so good and I’d recommend it to anyone. It’s really cute and it definitely belongs to one of my favorite books now!

Have you read this book? What did you think? Please let me know because I’m dying to talk about how good it was!!

Book Traveling Thursday: Reread

Hello there! Since I’ve planned on staying up to date with tags and memes, here’s my BTT for this week!

To make it a little bit easy you are going to choose different editions of the original cover, the cover from your country, your favorite cover, and your least favorite cover.

June 8th – Choose a book you want to read repeatedly.

I’m going with…. Percy Jackson! I’ve read this series for the first time when I was 13 years old, and I immediately loved it. It’s also the first book/series I’ve ever read in English haha 🙂

Original cover:

7581796

Cover from my country (The Netherlands):

6935607

Unlike most Dutch covers, I actually like this one, it displays very well what’s going on inside the book!

Favorite cover:

516tbavfpvl-_sx324_bo1204203200_

I have this cover myself and in real life, it’s so sparkly and beautiful!

Least favorite cover:

6861455

It just simply doesn’t speak to me, sadly

And that’s all for today! Have you read this series? If English isn’t your native language, what was the first book you’ve read in English and when?

Until next time!

Behind the blog: about me + life update

Hey y’all, here I am again, after weeks (?? or more???). I want to apologize for not being active and constantly taking breaks without giving you any reason why.

Soooo, here I am, and I’ll explain some things to you.

As I’ve mentioned before, I work six days a week (and by that I mean 6 full days, usually from 12pm to 8.30pm and on Saturdays from 8.30am to 6.30pm), which already makes my free time quite limited. I”m thinking about getting another job since lately there’s been a hell of a lot of drama and I’m just tired of it, but on the other side, I need the money really badly. I am also living in my own apartment (together with my sister) since the beginning of march and that means chores, endless chores. Besides that, I have some free time left, in which I usually go to my boyfriend, or I read, or if I’m really tired, I’ll spend it on Tumblr or Instagram.

However, a while ago, someone made a post about why it is so hard to review books sometimes, and it was all very accurate, and for me, I just can’t seem to find the time to read AND review books. I barely even read these days, because once I find myself reading, I just fall asleep.

However, as I’m trying to get things back in control, I (again) set some goals for myself:

  • Reach 100 followers
  • Learn how to program (I’ve started with html because that’s the easiest one haha)
  • Keep up with Book Traveling Thursdays and Top 5 Wednesdays
  • Also get back to the Beyond The Books meme, since I do a lot of other shit besides reading
  • Start doing a Musical Monday (or Sunday, depends on my free time)
  • Finish reviews of the movies I’ve seen in the time I was away
  • Write reviews about the books I’ve read
  • post my enormous book haul (yes,I was on a buying ban, but let’s be honest, when does that ever work?)
  • And some other stuff I’ve yet got to do.

As for now, I’m just glad y’all are still here 🙂

For the next few weeks, some things are happening:

  • This weekend (9th and 10th) I’ll be visiting my bf’s parents with him
  • in 9 days, there’s Graspop Metal Meeting from 16 to 19 June and I’m hella excited!!!!
  • on the 20th of June I’ll go to the hospital to get my ingrown toenail (partly) removed yay 😦
  • which means I’ll be sitting home for a week, not able to walk, I’ll probably be reading and scheduling posts (I hope)

I’ll try to really be more active, and I hope I can keep it up this time!

Until next time 🙂

I’m going with The Perks Of Being A Wallflower! I haven’t read a lot of contemporary books yet, but I’m getting there 🙂

Original (and least favorite) cover:

22628

I’ve got to admit, I really don’t like this cover. The yellow/green is kinda ugly and it’s just too much of one color on the entire cover 😦

Cover from my country (The Netherlands):

11249236

I actually really like this cover, surprisingly enough.

Favorite cover:

432706619188829

The first one is a lot like the Dutch cover, and the blue one is the one I bought. I really like it 🙂

Buy this book here!

Top 5 Wednesday: authors you want to read more from

The Top 5 Wednesday is created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @Thoughts On Tomes. You can find the Goodreads group here.

–Talk about some authors that you’ve only read one or a few books from, and you NEED to read more!

1. Rainbow Rowell

I really enjoyed Fangirl and Eleanor&Park so I’m definitely planning to read more!

2. Julie Kagawa

talon-series-1-3

I know, I’ve read almost everything (from the entire Iron Fey series to the Blood of Eden), but the Talon saga is something I haven’t read yet. It seems to me like an amazing series, although I do not exactly have the money to buy them now 😦 In my country, the books have texture and I don’t know if the English books have it too?

3. Terry Pratchett

I’ve started reading the Discworld series a while ago, but I loaned the books from a guy and I don’t have a lot of contact with him any more so I’ll have to find another way

4. Rick Riordan

I’ve read the Percy Jackson series, but after that he has written the Heroes of Olympus, Kane Chronicles, and if I remeber it right, another series, which I all haven’t read yet

5. Maggie Stiefvater

the-raven-cycle-series

I’ve read The Wolves of Mercy Falls and the Scorpio Races but I really want to read the Raven Cycle too. The books sound amazing (and honestly those covers are gorgeous)

And that’s all already! I have a lot more authors I really want to read more of, but maybe I’ll list them all sometime in another post 🙂

Have you read anything from these authors? What authors do you want to read more of?

Original cover:

17927395

I already do really like this cover to be honest. It makes me want to have it on my shelf ❤

Cover from my country (The Netherlands):

29623181

Basically the same but translated to Dutch!

Favorite cover:

3174231134514110

Look at those! I either am into a lot of colors, or the soft cover of the German version. They’re both so pretty!

Least favorite cover:

SURPRISE I don’t have one for once! Isn’t that great? 🙂

Have you read this book? What did you think of my choices?

Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite LGBTQ+ books

The Top 5 Wednesday is created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @Thoughts On Tomes. You can find the Goodreads group here.

I love books that feature LGBTQ+ characters, especially if they’re main characters. I hope we’ll get more books to feature those!

Oh I loved this book so much! Not only the LGBTQ+ part but also everything else because it’s amazing. I wrote a review here if you’re interested!

2. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

I also really loved this book, yet I do not have a review. The movie is actually really amazing too, you should watch it!

Now, that’s all the books I’ve read so far, but I do have a few on my TBR which I’ll list!

1. Aristoteles and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

2. Simon vs. the Homo-Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

3. More Happy than Not and History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

4. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

5. We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson

And that’s all for today!

Have you read any of these books? Do you have any receommendations for me?
